Introduction
I have always been a massive fan of various aspects of music. I enjoy listening to it, learning about music history, learning music trends, reviewing music, analyzing different music events, predicting festival lineups and award winners, writing music and tunes, and talking about music in general. I started a podcast about music, Groupie and Harmony, in November of 2019. I found that while I have enjoyed podcasting, there are certain limitations to this medium. I found that certain topics don’t lend themselves well to podcasting and there are restrictions into how much detail I can go into with some topics. After one series took several more episodes than I intended, I concluded that it would be beneficial to explore what I can do with a blog.
I have a few intentions for this blog. There are times where it will act as a complimentary piece to my podcast. I have found that podcasting is a good medium to go into more depth on a few elements within a topic, but if I want to do topics that have more elements, that hasn’t always worked out well in the podcast form. I believe this can be more effectively covered using the blog. Additionally, I have found certain topics have been difficult to cover in the podcast form. There have been multiple topics that I realized halfway through recording or after recording that it might be better through writing. As such, I will include some topics that will not be covered in my podcast.
Several of the topics I plan to discuss in Feeling Groupie are similar to those of Groupie and Harmony. I will include predictions related to music festivals and awards; I will probably include more possibilities or go into more depth for those than I would in the podcast. I also will include different series or segments that I would include in the podcast. I am edging towards including a recurring music review, but I’m not sure about the details for it yet. I hope to include several rankings related to music at some point. I have other topics that I hope to cover that don’t lend themselves to the podcast. One topic that I do not currently plan to discuss in the blog is news stories. I have included sections of them on Groupie and Harmony and I believe I will feel more comfortable covering such stories on there. However, I might make an exception for festival lineups.
While I like a wide variety of music, there are certain genres that I am a little partial towards. My favorite genre is currently metal, particularly metalcore and progressive metal; I also have been enjoying post-metal and deathcore recently. I also love punk (especially hardcore punk), alternative, hip hop/rap, R&B, classic rock (especially 70’s music), emo, math rock, industrial, post-hardcore, and jazz. My three favorite artists are Sufjan Stevens, Bring Me the Horizon, and Rise Against. Others that I love include Deftones, Deafheaven, Tool, Goo Goo Dolls, A Day to Remember, Nine Inch Nails, Dream Theater, August Burns Red, Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Circa Survive, This Wild Life, No Doubt, Rage Against the Machine, and Fever 333. I am a big fan of concerts as well; the best live acts I have ever seen are probably Foo Fighters, A Day to Remember, Chance the Rapper, The Black Keys, and August Burns Red.
Lastly, one goal that I hope is to get reader involvement. This has been challenging for me with the podcast and is something I want to make easily accessible for readers of the blog. I will encourage comments on any post I make since I want to be able to have interactive discussions. As much as I enjoy sharing my opinions, I am also interested in what others think about the same topic. Most of what I discuss will not have only one answer or one correct view; I want to continue the discussion and have fun with it. I am also looking into ways to have interactive posts to see if there’s a way I can include polls. At some point in the future I might include a way for readers to submit topics they would like to read about. I want you to enjoy reading this blog and if there’s something I can do to make it more enjoyable, I would love to hear it!
I am elated to begin Feeling Groupie! I look forward to writing blog posts and discuss my love for music with you!
