Daft Punk’s Album Rankings

On February 22 nd , Daft Punk released a video titled “Epilogue” which indicated they had broken up, which was later confirmed by their publicist.   I discussed this on my podcast, Groupie and Harmony, but I wanted to do something special on the podcast because they are arguably one of the best electronic groups and one of the most popular electronic groups.   Additionally, they hold a special place in my heart because they were the group that got me into electronic music, as I fell in love with them after listening to “Around the World”.   While electronic music was a music I listened to on-and-off for the past decade or so, Daft Punk was frequently the artist that would make me listen to it again at any given point. In this post, I have ranked Daft Punk’s studio albums.   While I included 2 honorable mentions (one live album and one soundtrack), the focus is on their 4 studio albums.   I determined my rankings based on which one sounds the best and is the be...

Fictional Festival Series: Metalcore Warped Tour 1

Image
After a couple months of teasing, I have finally released the first post in the Fictional Festival series!  For more information about the series in general, please see my introduction post about this series. This festival is similar to Warped Tour in structure (a lot of acts on several different stages) and style (i.e., pop punk/emo/metalcore), but I am focusing more on metalcore stylistically.  That said, I still am including other styles of music (pop punk, emo, ska punk, hip hop/rap, death metal, etc.) to entice more fans and in case metalcore does not have a sustainable enough following to organize a festival around the genre.  The scheduling of the festival is different than how Warped Tour did it; while Warped Tour typically had each act performing for around 30 minutes, I instead set it up as a traditional festival where bigger artists got longer sets; the 3 biggest acts will get 1-2 hour sets, the 4 th biggest act will get a 1 hour set, and the 5 th and 6 th ...

Fictional Festival Series Introduction

One blog idea I have teased for at least a few weeks is the Fictional Festival series. A couple months into the pandemic, I began to create fictional festival lineups of various genres to pass time.  I started with a festival that was more of a metalcore version of Warped Tour (but still including certain Warped style acts of other genres) and did a few of those before expanding.  My plan with this series is to share my festival ideas, lineups, and my though process behind the decisions I made. I currently have created the following festivals and lineups for them: Metalcore version of Warped Tour.   This is a one-day festival with 34 acts on 6 stages.   While Warped Tour was a touring festival for years, I treated this idea as if it were booking artists for a stationary festival due to my comfort level. Hard Rock/Metal festival.   I set it up in the same way that Epicenter was as guidance:   3 days, 4 stages, 68 acts total (22 on Friday, 23 on the...
